Roller derby leagues from as far north as Cairns and as far south as Lismore battle it out in what will be the first roller derby tournament to hit Queensland. The Beenleigh Arena is set to play host to the inaugural "Tropicarnage Cup", when nine leagues play a total of 14 bouts over three big days in November.
Roller derby is growing - not just as a participatory sport, but as a spectator sport. Fans up and down the coast (and inland too) can't get enough of it. While many leagues host their own internal bouts on a regular basis, there is currently not much opportunity for leagues to play each other nor a means of determining rankings. This prompted a collaboration between leagues from all over Queensland and northern New South Wales, giving rise to the Tropicarnage Cup.
Many of these leagues have not seen each other play before so it's set to be a great opportunity to test their skills against the other leagues in the area.
Along with three days of hard-hitting roller derby there will be market stalls, merchandise tables, food and a bar. Come and witness the biggest roller derby event in Queensland's history!
