This season you will see bigger hits, faster jammers, and way more food and bar access!

The first bout on March 26 at the Melbourne Showgrounds will be a double-header, opening with the Dead Ringer Rosies versus The Regional All Stars – a team made up of the best skaters from around Victoria.

They'll be followed by a grand final rematch between the Dolls Au-Go-Go and reigning champs from the VRDL’s 2010 Season, the Toxic Avengers.

SWS Freshmeat CallTHE feisty fish-netted derby girls of the South West Sydney Rockets are after fresh meat for their fledgling all-female squad.

The rough and tumble team, established mid-last year, already has more than 40 members, about 13 of which are from Canterbury-Bankstown.

“It’s sisterhood,” team member Jorgina Medina, 25, of Belmore, said when asked to describe the increasingly popular contact sport.

Medina, whose on-track name is Lady Gag-her, a reference to the pop star of a similar name, encouraged girls of all shapes and sizes

VDR BurnieTHESE women might look mean, but by day they are bank tellers, mothers and childcare workers.

They are the North-West contingent of the Van Diemen Rollers, the northern Tasmanian roller derby league.

North-West roller derby players travel twice weekly to Westbury for training and games, however, that is set to change with a push to bring games to Burnie.

Burnie-based player Cristell Harrison said she believed there was enough interest to have matches played on the Coast.

Booty Camp Victoria

The town of Daylesford in country Victoria was rocked by 100 regional Roller Derby skaters last weekend for the first ever Victorian Regional Roller Camp.

Skaters from West Side, East Vic, Latrobe, Rosebud, Dragon City, Diamond Valley, Northside, Murray Rivers, Bendigo and Ballarat got together over the weekend to fine tune their derby abilities with the help from Minnesota Roller Girls Coach, Misfit Maiden and local coaches from Ballarat Roller Derby League.

Clash Of The TartansTHEY ought to rename the Raymond Laurie Sports Centre the Roller Derby Arena after another big turnout for the Clash of the Tartans event on Saturday night.

A crowd of more than 500 watched the Sun State Roller Girls take to Yamba for the display competition which is sure to attract even larger numbers to the Clarence Valley Roller Derby League (CVRDL).

In a sign of things to come, the size of the walk-up crowd showed both the gaining momentum of roller derby and of women’s sport in the Valley.
