The Need for Speed

Speed Skating in Australia developed around the 1950's and progressed through the early learning years of the 1970's to 1980's when Australia won its first Gold Medals at the World Championships.
Speed Skating is fun and exciting and research has shown that it has more aerobic benefits than cycling with 50% less impact on joints than running.
Speed Racing involved races over short (300 metres) and long distances (84 km) on various tracks and today's competitors wear special inline skates which are designed to maximise speed.
