Karen Doyle President
Karen joined the Board in 2015, became President of Skate Australia in 2016 and is a member of the Executive Board of World Skate as World Skate Oceania President. Karen is a Speed Official – Referee, recognised at State, National and Internationally by World Skate Speed Technical Committee with an International Judges Commission. She is the Chair of the Skate Australia Commissioned Speed Officials Committee and as President has been active in all aspects of Skate Australia's operations for all sports. Karen is based in Brisbane.
John Lane Treasurer
John has enjoyed a 40 year career in senior finance and management roles in retail, aged care and education, retiring from full time work as General Manager and CFO of Australia's largest independent carpet business. He has been involved in skate sports since 1962, has extensive coaching and officiating experience and and assisted the in management of two world championships. John was originally a competitive artistic skater and has held a wide range of roles at club, state and national level. John lives with his wife on the Gold Coast and remains strongly committed to the future development of skate sports.
Alexandra Ash Board Member
Alexandra is Executive General Manager of Recreation of YMCA Victoria, operating over 70 facilities throughout Victoria and the South Australian Aquatic and Leisure Centre. She leads the Action Sports portfolio at YMCA Nationally which engages over 250,000 people each year in workshops, school programs, coaching clinics, skate park activations and skate leagues. Alex holds an MBA, a Master of Policy and Politics and is a Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors course. A Non-Executive Director of Gymnastics Victoria and former Chair of Disability Sport and Recreation Victoria, Alex resides in Melbourne with her husband and two children.
Kathryn Davies Board Member
Kathryn is a financial services industry professional with more than twenty years experience across three states at nab and Rural Bank. She has a track record of success delivering large-scale effective development strategies and a ‘hands-on’ approach to governance, finance and transformation. Kathryn is a Fellow of FINSIA, Signatory of the Banking and Finance Oath, holds an MBA and is an accredited Organisational Coach. Currently residing with her family in Melbourne, Kathryn is originally from North Queensland and remains connected to many locations in regional and metropolitan Queensland, Tasmania and Victoria.
Aleisha Hurley Board Member
Aleisha has a focus injury management, Sports Integrity education and first aid and plays an active role in drafting coaching and officiating education and bylaws. Her association with Skate Australia commenced in 2012 when she travelled with the Australian Roller Hockey Team to the Asian Games and she has held a wide range of roles at club, state and national level for Roller Hockey. Aleisha has long history of participation and support for indoor sports including netball and cricket. Aleisha owns Hurley Massage and Sports Therapy, lives in Brisbane and enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
Ariane de Rooy Executive Director
Ariane is a business growth professional who has previously held roles at Sport Australia, Sport England, the Queensland Rugby Union and Brisbane Roar Football Club working across strategy, growth, finance, governance, integrity, risk and people and culture. Ariane is a CPA, Graduate of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is responsible for day to day leadership and management of Skate Australia. Originally from Central Queensland, Ariane has lived in the UK, South East Asia and the ACT and currently resides with her husband in Brisbane.
Kim Crane Chair, High Performance Skateboarding Committee
Kim is one of Australia's most highly regarded and talented sport leaders with 30 years experience, knowledge and a passion for lifestyle and action sports. Having served in executive leadership roles with the AIS, National Institute Network and Surfing Australia as National High Performance Director as well as being a former Hockeyroo, Kim’s understanding, sector wide and personal experience in and of high performance and Olympic sport over 30 years is invaluable to Skate Australia.
Esther Godoy High Performance Skateboarding Committee
Esther has been skateboarding for over 18 years. During her professional competitive career, Esther travelled extensively throughout the USA, Europe and Australasia. In 2012 Esther saw the need for change within the Australian skateboarding landscape and founded Girls Skate Australia, the purpose being to progress the skill level of women’s skateboarding in Australia. Esther is focused on mentoring and provides team advice and management assistance to Skate Australia teams from her base in the US.
Corbin Harris High Performance Skateboarding Committee
A former professional skateboard athlete for Nike, Red Bull and Element, Corbin has vast experience in action sports broadcasting, presenting for FOX Sports, ESPN, NBC and Red Bull as well as hosting international events such as Nitro World Games and X Games events. Corbin’s experience, both nationally and internationally, within the sports, entertainment and creative industries brings a fresh dimension to Skate Australia's high performance outlook.
Alison Campbell High Performance Skateboarding Committee
Ali has a wide breadth of high performance experience having worked across fourteen summer and winter able bodied and Paralympic sporting programs. Ali’s diverse experience and working knowledge of the Australian sporting landscape adds value and perspective to the deep sport specific experience and knowledge of the committee. A physiotherapist by profession with an excellent understanding of sports science and sports medicine, Ali currently serves at the Paralympic Program Manager for Athletics Australia.
Matt Burgess High Performance Skateboarding Committee
Matt Burgess is the founder of Evolve Sports Group, a sports strategy and legal practice. Matt has over 15 years experience in international sports and legal executive roles, predominantly in action and lifestyle sports including the role of Head of Integrity of the World Surf League. Matt’s legal background, understanding of professional sports and ability to identify risks is great asset to Skate Australia.
Dr Patricia Wallace Board Advisor
Dr Wallace has a long history of service to Skate Australia: Internationally • Chairman of World Skate Anti-Doping Committee • World Skate Artistic Technical Committee International Official • Australian Delegate to both World Skate and World Skate Artistic Technical Committee Congress for many years • Significant Team Management experience for a variety of Australian Teams Nationally • Chair of Commissioned Artistic Officials Committee since 1993 • Chair of various committees at State level including WA Artistic and WA Commissioned Artistic Officials Committees • Chair of Sports Medicine Committee Governance • Member of Skate Australia Board 2006-2016 • President of Skate Australia 2009-2016. Dr Wallace remains as Chairman of the World Skate Anti-Doping Committee, World Skate Artistic Technical Committee International ‘AR’ Artistic Official.
