Abbie Brice Director
 

Abbie Brice is a highly accomplished executive and sports leader with deep experience across governance, people strategy, and high-performance sport. She is the current Chair of Lacrosse Australia, where she has successfully guided the organisation through significant change, championed best-practice governance, and represented the sport nationally and internationally, including advocacy around lacrosse’s inclusion in the Olympic Games.

 

Professionally, Abbie is an experienced People & Culture executive, with a career across notable companies including Redbubble.com. She specialises in building strong, people-centric cultures, driving organisational transformation, and embedding sustainable growth practices. Her expertise covers change management, talent strategy, risk mitigation, employee engagement, and diversity, equity, and inclusion.

 

As a former professional lacrosse athlete, Abbie represented Australia at four World Championships and competed in the US professional league. This background gives her an intimate understanding of high-performance sport, athlete pathways, and the importance of ensuring athlete voices are heard in governance structures.

 

Abbie holds the Foundations of Directorship qualification with the Australian Institute of Company Directors and is finalising a Diploma of Governance. She also has formal qualifications in Human Resources Management, Business Management, Behavioural Profiling, and Training & Assessment.

 

Abbie’s motivation to join the Skate Australia Board stems from her deep passion for sport and belief in the transformative power of effective governance. She is energised by the opportunity to help Skate Australia build on its recent successes, drive sustainable growth, and deliver a thriving future for skate sports in Australia.

Chris Winn  Director

With experience in strategic marketing, brand, media and public relations, Winn offers expertise in a key area of Skate Australia’s strategic plan. Winn has Bachelor of Business Management, board experience with the Chamber Commerce and Destination Coffs Coast, coupled with personal experience with skateboarding, Winn is a sound fit in commercial and stakeholder management for the organisation.

Karen Doyle  Director

Karen joined the Board in 2015 and is a member of the Executive Board of World Skate as World Skate First Vice President and World Skate Oceania President. Karen is a Speed Official – Referee, recognised at State, National and Internationally by World Skate Speed Technical Committee with an International Judges Commission. She is the Chair of the Skate Australia Commissioned Speed Officials Committee and is active in all aspects of Skate Australia's operations for all sports. Karen is based in Brisbane.

Katrina Harnwell  Director

Katrina is an experienced finance executive with extensive experience across a number of sporting codes and organisations including Australian Cycling and BMX Australia along with Ausrichter Pty Lty and a start-up. With a Bachelor of Economics, Masters of Tax and a certified Chartered Accountant, Harnwell possesses the qualifications to advise Skate Australia on financial and risk issues.

Dr Melissa McEwen Director

Dr Melissa McEwen is a seasoned executive and governance leader with more than 14 years’ experience at the highest levels of the Australian Public Service. She has led large organisations through periods of transformation, including serving as Chief Executive Officer of the Australian Pesticides and Veterinary Medicines Authority (APVMA), where she stabilised operations, rebuilt culture, delivered long-stalled regulatory decisions, and managed a $45m budget with over 200 staff. Across her public sector career, she has held senior roles spanning environment, agriculture, and education portfolios, often tasked with driving reform, stakeholder engagement, and complex regulatory change.

 

Melissa brings a wealth of board and governance expertise, having served on the APVMA Board, chaired multiple national regulatory and consultative committees, and graduated from the Australian Institute of Company Directors’ Course. Her professional track record demonstrates strength in stakeholder and government relations, media engagement, people and culture leadership, and the management of high-value programs and reforms.

 

Importantly, Melissa has a deep and personal connection to skate sports through roller derby, where she has been a player, coach, official, and administrator for more than 15 years. She served as President of Varsity Derby League in Canberra (2013–2014), helped introduce men’s derby to the league, coached teams, and supported junior roller derby programs. Her family remains actively involved in the skating community, including with the Victorian Roller Derby League.

 

Motivated by a commitment to strengthening smaller sports, Melissa is passionate about helping Skate Australia grow participation and build community pathways. She believes her blend of executive leadership, regulatory expertise, and lifelong involvement in community sport equips her to contribute meaningfully to the governance and future success of skate sports in Australia.

Miles Stewart OAM OLY Director

Miles Stewart is a highly respected sports leader and executive with an extensive career spanning elite sport, corporate management, and board governance. A former Olympian, World Champion, and recipient of the Order of Australia Medal, Miles brings unique insight into the culture of high performance, grassroots development, and community engagement.

 

He served as Chief Executive Officer of Triathlon Australia (2015–2022), where he oversaw governance reform, commercial growth, membership development, and the successful delivery of athlete and coach pathways. Under his leadership, Triathlon Australia was recognised as the number one sport in Australia for governance. Internationally, he has served as an Executive Board Member of World Triathlon, contributing to Olympic-level event strategies, technical committees, and athlete representation. His board roles also include Director of Triathlon Australia and Chair of its High-Performance Committee.

 

Beyond sport, Miles has held senior corporate executive roles in commercial property and asset management, including with Abacus Group and Charter Hall, where he managed multi-billion-dollar retail and commercial portfolios and led large-scale development projects. These roles strengthened his commercial acumen, strategic planning capability, and financial oversight.

 

Miles’ sporting background is exceptional. He is a 28-time national speed roller skating champion, a two-time World Triathlon Champion, a Commonwealth Games silver medallist, and an inductee into multiple halls of fame, including the International Triathlon Union Hall of Fame. His family has a long association with skating, having owned a rink in NSW, with his father a leading speed skating coach.

 

With an Executive Master’s in Olympic Sport Management and leadership training from Harvard Business School, Miles is passionate about helping Skate Australia navigate growth into the Olympic movement while safeguarding the tradition and pathways of all skate disciplines. His motivation lies in combining his governance expertise, corporate experience, and lifelong connection to skating to ensure a sustainable and successful future for the sport.

Tim Coghlan Director

Tim has a wealth of experience working with CEOs and Boards in corporate strategy, governance and implementing new business initiatives in Australia and internationally across trade sectors including luxury brands, technology, mental health and sports. He is an Asia business and geopolitics expert and often working in the region on economic and trade projects to advance Australia’s national interests.  Tim is deeply involved in sports and has been skateboarding for over 30 years and can still be found skating at his local childhood park - Canberra’s iconic Belconnen Skatepark.  He is a skateboard and breathwork coach and certified yoga instructor. With extensive experience in Asia, Tim adopts Eastern philosophy, health and fitness concepts from yoga, tai chi, martial arts and meditation into innovative training systems for performance sports.  Combining his international and sports sector experience, Tim is passionate about leveraging sports diplomacy for building connections and friendship between nations.
