Celebrating International Women's Day

Friday 8 March marks International Women’s Day, Skate Australia would like to take the opportunity to celebrate all the incredible women within our community.

One of the women leading the way for the Skate Australia community especially Rink Hockey in Australia is Louise Baxter.

Louise is an active member of the community currently serving as the Australian Women’s Rink Hockey team manager.

Joining the team three years ago Louise provides the team with administrative and operational support.

“My role as team manager is wide ranging, I support the team and athletes with anything they may need.

“It can be very logistical, I organise uniforms, schedules, flights and accommodations as well as attend training camps and international competitions.

Louise values the team environment and enjoys being part of a like minded community.

“I really enjoy engaging with women of all ages and backgrounds, along with the team we also have a great development squad,” said Louise.

“There has been many highlights during my time as team manager, but of course I can’t go past our recent success in China where we took home Australia’s first ever Women’s Rink Hockey gold medal.

“I am very lucky to have be involved with this team, it’s quite fulfilling.”

Outside of her role as the Team Manager for the Australian Women’s Rink Hockey team, Louise is based in Brisbane as a Senior Advisor on Diversity and Inclusion for Queensland Health.

When asked what her best advice for women looking to be involved in sport, Louise put simply ‘get involved’.

“I think we need more women in sport, there is a role for everyone to play,” she said.

“ It’s really important to increase visibility of female participation both taking part in sport and those behind the scenes. We need to show that women’s sport is amazing and exciting.

“If you can’t see a role model in a sport you are interested in, don’t be put off by it. Get involved and be that person for someone else.”
