Updated: Mar 11

Skate Australia is commencing a review of the Constitution to ensure our governance framework continues to reflect best-practice standards and aligns with Australian Sports Commission requirements.

As part of this process, the Skate Australia Board has established a Governance Working Group to provide advice, expertise and support throughout the review.

We are now inviting Expressions of Interest from members of the skateboarding and wider sporting community who would like to contribute to this important work.

About the Governance Working Group

The Governance Working Group will play an advisory role and support the Board by:

  • Providing feedback on proposed constitutional changes

  • Supporting member consultation and communication

  • Identifying opportunities to strengthen Skate Australia’s governance arrangements

While the group will make recommendations to the Board, members may also assist with elements of the review where relevant.

Who should express interest?

Skate Australia welcomes Expressions of Interest from individuals with experience or interest in areas including:

  • Sport governance and leadership

  • Legal or constitutional frameworks

  • Organisational reform and change management

  • Club, state or member-based administration

We strongly encourage applications from people with diverse skills, perspectives and lived experience to ensure a well-rounded and inclusive review process.

Time commitment

The Governance Working Group is expected to meet monthly, primarily online. Members will be asked to contribute to meetings and review documentation as required.

How to submit an Expression of Interest

After reviewing the Terms of Reference, interested individuals are invited to submit:

  • A current CV

  • A short statement (approximately half a page) outlining:

    • Relevant background or experience

    • Interest in joining the Governance Working Group

Please email your submission to admin@skateaustralia.org.au.

Closing date: 11.59pm (AEST), 15 February 2026

Skate Australia thanks all applicants for their interest and support as we continue to strengthen our governance and position the organisation for future success.

Governance working groups tend to attract two very different kinds of participants — those genuinely committed to building better institutional frameworks and those seeking a seat at the table without the appetite for the difficult conversations that meaningful governance reform actually requires. Expressions of interest reveal intent but rarely capability. Those wanting to contribute something genuinely substantive to working groups like this often find a top-rated strategic governance seminar & course for executives in Brisbane, Australia builds exactly the structured governance thinking that separates valuable contributors from well-intentioned ones. Frankly, working groups like this seem to matter most when participants arrive ready to challenge assumptions, not just represent organizational interests.

The initiative by Skate Australia to revise its Constitution is a crucial step in modernizing governance. Engaging a diverse Governance Working Group could yield insights that align with the latest best practices. It’s essential to ensure that processes are not only efficient but also transparent. The inclusion of members with backgrounds in sport governance and leadership will help maintain integrity, much like the standards set by entities such as god of wins in their operational frameworks.

Reviewing governance frameworks ensures alignment with regulatory standards and best practices, reinforcing accountability and transparency. Structural compliance can also influence funding eligibility and operational legitimacy. Much like integrating The Pokies into a controlled system, the effectiveness of oversight depends on adherence to defined rules and consistent application rather than informal practice alone.

Periodic constitutional review signals an effort to recalibrate governance structures against evolving regulatory benchmarks. Alignment with national commission standards can strengthen accountability and funding eligibility, yet it may also formalize constraints on operational flexibility. Much like embedding Pay ID https://codeworks.gen.nz/ within regulated systems, compliance architecture must balance oversight with functional efficiency.

Periodic constitutional reviews signal an attempt to reconcile legacy governance structures with evolving compliance benchmarks. Alignment with regulatory bodies can strengthen accountability, yet it may also constrain flexibility in operational decision making. In comparable public facing contexts Royal Reels transparency efforts similarly balance credibility with the administrative burden of formal oversight.
