Skate Australia announces new National Technical Committee governance framework and calls for Expressions of Interest

The Skate Australia Board has approved a new National Technical Committee governance framework designed to strengthen support and modernise roles and responsibilities. 

The framework is a direct delivery of Skate Australia’s Skate Your Story 2026–2032 Strategic Plan.

Importantly, the framework will strengthen the governance and support around volunteers, and is not designed to change the technical leadership of Skate Australia’s sports.

These changes deliver a key project in Pillar 1: Break the Mould, which committed Skate Australia to reviewing existing committees, streamlining committee structures and implementing nationally consistent Terms of Reference. 

The changes also are aimed at progressing Skate Australia’s work to clarify roles and responsibilities and modernise its governance framework.

The Skate Australia Board has; 

• approved a new National Technical Committee Master Terms of Reference.  

• Implemented a new Skate Sport Policy, including a transparent, skills-based appointment process;

• Implemented a new Sport Committee Framework, bringing together the Chairs of each National Technical Committee; and

• Created the supporting governance documents that will strengthen and support the operation of our National Technical Committees.

National Technical Committee Expressions of Interest

Skate Australia is now accepting expressions of interest for Skateboarding, Rink (Roller) Hockey and Speed Skating. 

Applications for these three committees will close at 5.00pm (AEST) on Wednesday 19 August 2026. Further disciplines will follow over the coming months through a staged rollout.

Skate Australia is looking for passionate people who want to help shape the future of their sport nationally. We’re looking for candidates who bring a combination of; 

• technical expertise;

• coaching and officiating knowledge;

• athlete representation;

• governance capability; and

• diverse geographic perspectives.

All current National Technical Committee members are strongly encouraged to apply, regardless of their current appointment or remaining term.

We're also keen to encourage new people to step forward. If someone has the passion, experience and skills to make a positive contribution to their sport, we'd love to hear from them.

Successful applicants will; 

• actively participate in committee meetings and decision-making;

• contribute to annual operational planning, budgeting and reporting;

• work collaboratively with Skate Australia, the Sport Committee and State Technical Committees;

• uphold Skate Australia's governance framework, policies and values; and

• complete the governance and compliance requirements of the role.

This includes signing the Skate Australia Code of Conduct prior to commencing, declaring any conflicts of interest, completing governance training as required and acquiring/maintaining any relevant/requested qualifications or credentials throughout their appointment.

• identify the National Technical Committee being applied for;

• be emailed to admin@skateaustralia.org.au; and

• be received by 5.00pm (AEST) on Wednesday 19 August 2026.
