At its recent Annual General Meeting, Skate Australia proudly announced the induction of three new Life Members — the first to be honoured since 2008.

This year’s recipients, Pamela (Pam) Young, Tammy Bryant, and Jayson Sutcliffe, have each made extraordinary and enduring contributions to artistic roller skating in Australia.

Pamela (Pam) Young has been a dedicated member of Skate Australia since 1989 and has contributed more than 35 years of continuous service to the sport. As Chair of the Australian Artistic Technical Committee, Pam has led numerous initiatives to strengthen coaching, education, and inclusion across the skating community. Her leadership at state, national, and international levels — along with her long-standing commitment to fair competition and athlete development — has made her one of the sport’s most respected figures.

Tammy Bryant, a member since 1984, is celebrated as Australia’s first-ever World Champion in artistic roller skating. A three-time World Champion and ten-time World Top Ten finalist, Tammy’s achievements have inspired generations of skaters. She is also recognised for her innovation, having created the internationally recognised “Bryant Spin,” officially adopted by World Skate in 2019. Tammy continues to shape the sport through her coaching and mentorship, and her Life Membership fittingly coincides with the 30th anniversary of her first World Championship victory.

Jayson Sutcliffe, who joined Skate Australia in 1982, is one of the nation’s most accomplished and influential skaters. A four-time World Champion and 13-time World Top Ten finalist, he remains the only athlete to have won world titles on both roller and inline skates. Beyond his competitive success, Jayson has been a driving force in promoting skating through coaching, education, and media — including his autobiography and acclaimed documentaries that have brought the sport to new audiences worldwide. His Life Membership also marks the 30th anniversary of his first World Championship win.

The recognition of Pam, Tammy, and Jayson as Life Members celebrates their remarkable achievements, leadership, and lifelong dedication to the advancement of artistic skating in Australia.
