As the countdown to the LA2028 Olympic Games heats up, the Gold Coast is set to attract the country’s best and budding skateboarders as part of the Rumble Skateboarding Pro Tour and Amateur Series.

Skate Australia is partnering with Pacific Action Sport to add Olympic host city the Gold Coast as one of the stops of the Rumble Skateboarding Pro Tour and Amateur Series.

From the 9-19 July 2026, Elanora Bowl and Pizzey Park will host the country’s top skateboarders for the first time, with the event to double as the Skate Australia National Championships and form part of the national rankings. The event will mark two years to go until the LA2028 Olympic Games, making an important stepping stone for those vying for Australian team selection.

Skate Australia CEO, Alex Anasson, said the new National Championships marks a significant milestone for the sport as part of the ‘green and gold runway’ towards Brisbane 2032.

“This is an exciting announcement for Skate Australia to be able to deliver a true National Championships that will form an integral part of our Olympic pathway,” said Anasson.

“Pacific Action Sports have a proven track record in delivering world-class events and are the perfect partner to help bring to life skateboarding’s National Championships.

“Many of our athletes have competed as part of the Rumble Skateboarding Pro Tour and Amateur Series, and we are looking forward to seeing that event go to the next level now that it will also be part of the Skate Australia’s national rankings.

“Thanks to the generous support of the Gold Coast City Council and Experience Gold Coast, we are thrilled that this event will be staged in one of the host Olympic cities for 2032,” she said.

Pacific Action Sport General Manager, Matt Wilson said “After finishing the 2025 series we basically went to work in the off season to elevate numerous features of the skateboarding tour for 2026 onwards.

“One of the key things we wanted was to add new events in quality and iconic locations around Australia, which the Gold Coast certainly delivers.

“We want to thank Experience Gold Coast and the City of Gold Coast for their vision and support for this event and we’re super stoked to include it as part of our National Tour.”

Gold Coast Mayor, Tom Tate, said “When it comes to world class events and festivals, our city dreams big – and delivers.

“Attracting events of this calibre underscores our commitment to promoting the Gold Coast as the No 1 destination for high energy family entertainment. In July, it’s time to rumble as the world’s best skateboarders take centre stage at two magic locations. Get your Frontside 180 on and support this amazing tournament.’’

Olympic champion Arisa Trew, said it was exciting to be able to compete in front of her friends and family on the Gold Coast.

“It’s going to be a super good experience for everyone in Australia,” said Trew.

“Having it in my home town is awesome, it’s going to bring the level up and it’s going to be a great experience for the emerging skaters, having them skate at a world level.

“I definitely wish the Olympics in 2032 will be held on the Gold Coast, it’s my home town, and I love the Gold Coast, myself and Keegan have both come from here, being the Olympic Gold medallists.”

Local 11-year-old Ethan Potter from Tullabudgera, has been inspired by watching so many skaters at Pizzey Park.

“I love skating here, and love watching everybody skating,” he said.

“It’s going to be so cool having everyone competing on the Gold Coast. Hopefully I can get better, compete strongly and really the goal is that I want to compete at the Brisbane 2032 Olympics.”

The Rumble on the Beach events, including the National Championships, will headline the inaugural Gold Coast Festival of Skateboarding, held across the Gold Coast throughout July, showcasing opportunities for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in skateboarding.

The BMD Rumble Pro Tour, supported by Skate Australia, sees the largest ever line up of Australia’s best skate parks and locations, covering 7 different locations, across 4 states with a total of $75,000 up for grabs. The strongest field of skateboarders are expected to compete across the series with the Rumble forming an important partnership with Skate Australia to use rankings points from Rumble events for national team, and ultimately, Olympic, selection/qualification.
