Australian Roller Freestyle Riders Make Their Mark at World Skate Games

Australian Roller Freestyle riders delivered strong performances at the World Skate Games in Paraguay, with Theresa Wang (Junior) and Gavin Drumm (Mens) reaching the Street finals and Hal Durham producing solid results across the Junior events.
Wang qualified sixth in Junior Street to secure a place in the final. However, challenging weather conditions prevented her from completing her final, leaving her qualifying position of sixth as her final result. Durham finished 15th in Junior Street after producing a clean first run and improving his rail tricks in the second.
In Men’s Street, Drumm progressed through qualifying and the semi-finals to reach the final, finishing 10th. Added to the Australian team just weeks before the competition, Drumm made an immediate impact on the international stage. Sam Fogarty finished 21st in Street before also competing in Vert and Park.
Durham continued his Junior campaign in Park, finishing 11th after putting together a series of solid runs. Fogarty placed 14th in Mens Park, after reaching the semi final.
Weather disruptions also affected the Vert competition, with the event ultimately cancelled. Fogarty and Yost were among those unable to complete their respective campaigns in the discipline.
Despite the disappointment, the Australians demonstrated the sportsmanship and team spirit that underpin the sport. Sam, Shane and Dan helped organise the drying of the Park course, rallying others to clear rainwater from the surface so competition could continue.
The Australian contingent also benefited from the expertise of coach and trainer Dan, whose skills were recognised and called upon by athletes from several other nations throughout the event.
