Scooter World Championships Wrap

The World Scooter Championships held in Sakai Ibaraki, Japan in 2025 were an outstanding experience. The Australian team consisted of 23 athletes, both male and female, competing across the Pro Junior, Pro Park and Street categories, supported by their families. We are a close-knit group with a strong and enthusiastic cheer squad, and the Australian presence was clearly recognised throughout the event.

Our riders represented Australia with professionalism, skill, and pride while wearing their official Skate Australia tops. We are extremely proud of all team members. Special recognition goes to Toby Chew for securing first place and Jake Harrop for finishing third in the Junior Pro Park category. Several Australian riders also progressed through to the semi-finals in their respective events. Unfortunately, due to adverse weather conditions, the Street finals were cancelled and semi-final results stood.

For many of our athletes, this was their first opportunity to compete on the world stage, and the experience brought out the best in them. Their confidence was evident, with new skills and tricks showcased throughout the competition. It was also fantastic to see increased female participation, particularly from our Australian athletes Emily Gibson and Akira Mellor. The sport of freestyle scooter riding continues to grow both in Australia and worldwide, and we look forward to seeing what 2026 brings.

In the Junior Pro Park category, Toby Chew took out first place, with Jake Harrop finishing third. Jayden Schianski and Kobi Marshall also rode incredibly well and put on a great show.

In Junior Males Street, Shaun Spathonis placed fourth in the semi-finals before the rain, while Sonny Harrop, Liam Masters and Toby Chew all delivered standout runs.

Women’s Street saw a strong performance from Emily Gibson, who also competed in Women’s Pro Park alongside Akira Mellor. Both riders did Australia proud.

In Pro Men’s Park, Corey Sponseller finished an impressive sixth place. Taj Shambrook made it through to the semi-finals, while Sam Fahey, Marli Wallace, Aiden Jorgensen, and Clayton Saunders all competed and threw down some huge tricks.

The Pro Men’s Street division featured Charlie Stamp, Will Scott, Bernie Concannon, Riley Fisak, Jay Marshall, Cameron Potter and Felix Corcoran, who made it through to the semi-finals in fifth position. Unfortunately, the final was rained out. Juzzy Carter and Rhys Rogers were unwell and unable to ride, but congratulations to both of them for qualifying for the World Scooter Championships.

Congratulations to everyone who competed at the event and showed the world what Australians are made of.

First and third place in Junior Pro Park is a strong result for the Australian team. It’s a shame the rain cancelled the Street finals, especially for riders who had made it through the semis. I also liked reading that several athletes were competing on the world stage for the first time. That experience should stay with them well beyond this event. Much like learning when to betfm, competing at this level is about gaining experience, making decisions under pressure, and becoming more confident with every opportunity.

Riders compete against strong international Space Waves fields, with each athlete looking to deliver clean, difficult, and creative runs.
