The Speed Skating Championships hosted in Victoria brought together more than 130 competitors from across the country, ranging in age from eight to 70, for a full programme of racing that included explosive 100m sprints, road championships, and tactical pack races across multiple distances.

“Many athletes achieved personal bests and several record-breaking performances, including Lannah Meadows (VIC) setting a new 200m dual time trial record and Jaxon Hansen (QLD) breaking the Junior Marathon record,” says Pauline Robertson, Technical Committee Chair for Speed Skating.

Supported by an experienced team of officials who ensured the event ran smoothly and efficiently, the competition celebrated both individual achievement and the strength of the speed skating community. In the team results, Queensland claimed victory in the Road Competition, Victoria topped the Track events, and Victoria went on to secure the Overall Trophy.

“This year, our medal presenters were all former World Team members. We were especially honoured to have Australia’s first-ever international medal winner, Lee Hollis, present the trophy named in her honour,” says Robertson.
