Australian roller freestyle skater Sam Fogarty is proving age is no barrier to progression, claiming victory in the Veterans Blading Cup event at FISE last week and showing he remains one of the sport’s most passionate and influential figures.
Fogarty topped a strong international field at the prestigious Blading Cup event held alongside FISE, one of the world’s premier action sports festivals, adding another achievement to an already significant contribution to Australian roller freestyle skating.
While many athletes slow down after years in the sport, Fogarty continues to balance high-level competition with major leadership roles behind the scenes. Last year he served as Team Manager for the Australian Roller Freestyle team at the World Championships, while earlier this year he also organised the World Skate Games Roller Freestyle qualifying event in March.
His latest result is another reminder that he is still performing at an elite level while helping drive the sport forward in Australia.
Fogarty’s win in Montpellier came against an experienced international veterans field, with Greg Breger and Patrick Francisco joining him on the podium.
Despite the success, Fogarty is far from finished for 2026.
The Australian placed fifth at the NL Contest in Strasbourg, with a potential World Skate World Cup appearance in Italy also under consideration as he continues an impressive competitive run.
Fogarty is planning on running a Roller Freestyle event again in March 2027.
From athlete, organiser and mentor, Fogarty continues to play a vital role in the growth of roller freestyle skating in Australia, and based on recent performances, he is showing no signs of slowing down.
