Skate Australia is delighted to announce the appointment of Miles Stewart OAM OLY as Chair of the Skate Australia Board, bringing a wealth of experience in sport leadership, governance, and commercial management to the organisation as it looks toward an exciting period leading into the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.

A highly respected sports executive and former Olympian, Stewart has forged a distinguished career across elite performance, corporate management, and board governance.

A 28-time national speed roller skating champion and a two-time World Triathlon Champion, Stewart’s sporting journey began in skating. His family’s deep roots in the sport — including ownership of a skating rink and his late father’s legacy as a national speed skating coach — give his appointment special significance.

As Chief Executive Officer of Triathlon Australia (2015–2022), Stewart oversaw significant governance reform, commercial growth, and the strengthening of athlete and coach development pathways. Under his leadership, Triathlon Australia was recognised as Australia’s one of the top sports for governance and became a leading example of strategic, athlete-centred development within the Olympic system.

Internationally, Stewart has served on the World Triathlon Executive Board, contributing to Olympic event strategy, technical development, and athlete representation. His governance experience also includes roles as Director of Triathlon Australia and Chair of its High-Performance Committee.

Beyond sport, Stewart has held senior executive positions in the commercial property and asset management sectors, including with Abacus Group and Charter Hall, where he managed multi-billion-dollar portfolios and led major development initiatives — strengthening his expertise in financial oversight, strategic growth, and operational leadership.

With an Executive Master’s in Olympic Sport Management and executive education from Harvard Business School, Stewart is deeply committed to guiding Skate Australia through a period of growth and opportunity as skate disciplines continue to evolve on the international stage.

“It’s an honour to return to the sport where my journey in the industry began,” Stewart said. “Skate Australia is uniquely positioned to grow its reach and relevance, particularly with skateboarding’s Olympic momentum and Australia’s medal winning prowess, alongside the incredible grassroots energy across all the skate disciplines. I look forward to working with the Board, our members, and the broader community to build a sustainable and inspiring future for skating in Australia.”

Skate Australia Chief Executive Officer Alex Anasson welcomed Stewart’s appointment, highlighting his depth of experience and vision for the sport’s future.

“Miles brings an exceptional blend of sporting achievement, governance leadership, and commercial experience,” Anasson said. “His connection to skating and his proven record in leading national sporting organisations will be invaluable as we shape the next strategic direction for Skate Australia heading toward LA28. We’re excited to work with Miles and the Board to continue advancing opportunities for all our skate disciplines — from grassroots to high performance.”
