Skate Australia Secures Landmark Participation Funding

Skate Australia has welcomed a boost for the future of skate sports after being announced as a first-time recipient of funding through the Australian Sports Commission's Play Well Participation Grant Program.

The funding will support Skate Australia's commitment to growing participation nationwide, creating more opportunities for Australians of all ages and abilities to get involved in skate sports in safe, welcoming and inclusive environments.

Skate Australia is one of 58 sporting organisations to receive Play Well funding, with more than $50.5 million committed over the next year across the Sporting Schools program and other participation initiatives. Skate Australia and the Australian Calisthenics Federation are the only organisations receiving participation funding through the program for the first time.

Skate Australia Chief Executive Officer Alex Anasson said the funding marked an important milestone for the organisation and the broader skate community.

"We are incredibly grateful to the Australian Sports Commission for its support of skate sports through the Play Well Participation Grant Program,” Anasson said. 

“This investment represents an important step forward in Skate Australia's mission to grow participation and strengthen skate communities across the country.

"In partnership with our State Sporting Organisations, Technical Committees and skate sport providers, Skate Australia is committed to achieving our strategic vision of powering a national skate movement of 250,000 Australians by 2032.

“United by the spirit of One Skate, Many Stories, we are working to create more opportunities for people of all ages and backgrounds to discover, participate in and thrive within skate sports.

"This funding will enable us to expand support across all skate disciplines, develop new participation programs and implement critical systems that ensure our sports are safe, inclusive and fair.

"Importantly, it will help strengthen the pathways that allow every participant, from first-time skaters to high-performance athletes, to find their place in skate and realise their potential."

As interest in skate sports continues to grow across Australia, the investment provides an important platform to expand participation pathways and build stronger, more connected skate communities for years to come.
